Chiselborough and West Chinnock
from Byme Bridge to Chiselborough via West Chinnock

A maximum of fourteen at a time may join this wild and interesting, almost four and a half mile near circular walk through West Chinnock and Chiselborough.
From Byme Bridge to West Chinnock is a fairly level walk, although footpath directions and the paths themselves may be difficult to find. May and June may see Monarchs Way heavily overgrown and almost impassable. From the Muddied Man (an obvious stopping off point) the paths take an easy but demanding upward climb. This is cattle area, and caution must be taken with animals in the fields. At the top of the climb is the Chiselborough Road which, after about a third of a mile leads to the village and the Cat Head Inn where coffee, tea or lunch.may be had while waiting for the Nippy Bus and the return journey to South Petherton.
The walk can be achieved in two and a quarter hours, but allow three plus to cater for the slowest and the pit stops along the way. The views are extensive, and on a bright summers day, the temptation will be to linger. 'Wellies' are advised if recent days have had heavy rain.
The walk has a number of Bristol and Kissing gates. In all there are half a dozen or more stiles and includes a stone stile close to Manor Farm.
