A maximum of fourteen at a time may join this 'Nippy Bus Cider Walk' that crosses some of South Somerset's most picturesque, wheat fields, orchards with grazing sheep, and pastureland full of young, somewhat frisky cattle, which makes for varied and interesting scenery.
This is a mostly level, easy going four-mile walk. The last mile or so ascending gently to Burrow Hill Cider Farm.
The walk can be achieved in one and a quarter hours, but allow one and a half hours to cater for the slowest. The footpaths are good but can be somewhat overgrown in early summer or autumn and in places are uneven underfoot.
The walk has a number of Bristol and Kissing gates. In all there are about half a dozen stiles, some quite tricky.
Definitely one for 'wellies' if recent days have had heavy rain. Gateways and farm tracks can flood to six or eight inches which can make it impossibly uncomfortable to pass wearing walking boots.
After visiting the Cider Farm, it is a short, down hill walk to the Rusty Axe for lunch.
Around 3.00pm the local Nippy Bus will pick up our walkers and carry them homeward, to South Petherton, with connections to Yeovil and other destinations on the way.
Please note that times may vary, dependant on bus services and walking speeds. If 'sampling', it is always a good idea to make arrangements for others to pick you up at your final destination.
